What is IBD?

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a group of disorders that cause chronic (long term) inflammation (ulcers, swelling, redness) in the digestive tract. IBD has two subtypes namely: Crohn’s disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC).
A person can have any one of these two conditions-:
  • Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the GIT from the mouth to the anus. It most commonly affects the small intestine and upper part of the large intestine.
  • Ulcerative Colitis involves the large intestine(colon) and the rectum.
