What is Gastrointestinal Tract?

Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) also known as the digestive system, is the collection of organs that work in harmony to utilize the food we eat and provide energy and nutrition required by the body. It is also responsible for removing the waste substances from the body after the process of digestion. It consists of the following organs:
  • 1. Mouth
  • 2. Esophagus
  • 3. Stomach
  • 4. Small intestine
    • Duodenum
    • Jejunum
    • ileum
  • 5. Large Intestine
    • Ascending colon
    • Transverse colon
    • Descending colon
    • Sigmoid colon
  • 6. Liver/ Gall bladder and the pancreas assist in the digestion by secreting enzymes that help in digestion.
