Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a group of disorders that cause chronic (long term) inflammation (ulcers, swelling, redness) in the digestive tract. IBD has two subtypes namely: Crohn’s disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC).
A person can have any one of these two conditions-:
Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the GIT from the mouth to the anus. It most commonly affects the small intestine and upper part of the large intestine.
Ulcerative Colitis involves the large intestine(colon) and the rectum.
